Her Last Dance
August 1956 - June 2025
Jerri Ruth Mitchell was a remarkable woman who faced a swift cancer battle with courage and resilience. She lost her fight & left this world in summer of 2025. Her legacy is a testament to the love and compassion she shared with the world. This space is dedicated to celebrating her life and the impact she made on those around her.
In Loving Memory of Jerri
Jerri was the only daughter and child of James and Sue. Although she was born to Joice and “Shang,” she was lovingly raised and cherished by her parents, James and Sue, who adopted her and gave her a life filled with their full devotion. While raised as an only child, Jerri’s world was anything but lonely — she was blessed with many siblings who loved and embraced her wholly as their sister.
She is survived by her beloved children: Melissa and Darin, Monica and Joseph, Mariah and Cory, and McKenzie and James.
Her pride and joy — her grandchildren: Chloe, Calista (Donald), Elijah, Seth, Moriah, Silas, Emmalena, Elliot, Jamie (Edward), Jessica, Jordan, Neo, Wesley, Joseph, Mathew, and Sophia.
Jerri held many other children in her heart throughout the years — notably her special first son from the heart, David, as well as Michelle, Reem, and many more who became family through love and time.
She is also survived by her siblings: Diantha, George and Lisa, Garnet, Tammy, Timothy, Wendy and Thomas, Wade, and William.
Jerri’s heart belonged not just to her family but also to her beloved dog, Meadow, whom she loved fiercely. She is lovingly remembered by her “grandcats,” Marnie and Charlie.
Jerri was preceded in death by her cherished parents James and Sue, her birth parents Joice and Allie, her brothers Michael and Jay, and her lifelong best friend Ellen, who passed away earlier this year.
Jerri lived an incredibly full and colorful life that included her calling as a Registered Nurse, LPN, EMT, CPR Instructor, Phlebotomy Teacher, business owner, and most recently, as an active board member for a nonprofit animal welfare organization. She took great pride in being a mom, daughter, and proud “mamaw” — roles she treasured above all.
A lover of all things Betty Boop, motorcycles, unique rocks from her travels, and men in uniform (a fact she proudly shared), Jerri had a deep love for her southern roots and often reminded friends and family, “Bring me home a rock!”
She leaves behind her lifelong friend Cherri, who stood faithfully beside her and her family through every season, as well as her special cousin and soul sister Terri, with whom she shared a daily bond no distance could break. She also kept her childhood friend Sheila and her “nurse-in-crime” Bill close to her heart through all of life’s changes.
To say Jerri will be missed is the biggest understatement. She was a one-of-a-kind force of nature — bold, loving, outspoken, loyal, unforgettable, and full of sass.
In lieu of flowers, Jerri’s wishes were for donations to be made in her name to Rooted In Love Rescue & Sanctuary, a division of Seeded Faith Farm Rescue, where she served proudly as a founding board member.
